Guangdong, or the Pearl River Delta region, is the world's biggest metropolitan region, with about 60 million residents. From the second half of the 2020 decade, it should become possible to traverse the Guangdong metropolitan region entirely by metros. As of 2021, there are still regional railways involved in the trip. When starting in Hong Kong, take the MTR East Line to Lok Ma Chau, cross the border, and on the Shenzhen side hop on Line 4 to Civic Center, transfer to Line 2 to Futian and then Line 11 to Shenzhen Airport. From there, take the Guangshen Commuter Railway to Humen. Take an optional ride on Dongguan's metro Line 1 and back. To stay on metro/commuter rail tracks, continue on the Guangshen Line, or take a shortcut on the Intercity Express Line for one stop to Qingsheng, where Guangzhou's metro Line 4 connects. Guangfo metro line takes you to Foshan and back. Foshan is constructing a metro network, but until now, Guangfo is the only line. Guangzhou's lines 4, 5, 6 are LIM lines, and 14, 18, and 21 are express lines. There is an automated people mover between Linhexi ans Guangzhou Tower. Guangzhou has a Metro Museum. Lines 2 and 7 go to Guangzhou South station, from where a Regional Rail line goes to Zhuhai with its Zhuhai Tram line. Continue to Zhuhai railway station and walk 200 meters east to Gongbei Port for immigration to Macau. There are only buses going to Macau Light Rail. From Taipa Ferry Terminal, take either a ferry back to Hong Kong, or take a bus that goes across the spectacular 55 km new bridge-tunnel system to Hong Kong. Hong Kong's varied means of transport include double-decker trams, the Central-Midlevel escalator, the Peak Tram and a light rail system in the West. There's a Railway Museum.
